As the Semi-finals were set and underway today with the women kicking it off and
Ons Jabeur the 3 seed from Tunisia and Elena Rybakina the 17 seed of Kazakhstan,
will face each other on Saturday for the title at Wimbledon, where both are seeking their
first major title in England.
As for the men, both matches are both set for tomorrow where we thought it was more
than likely going to be Novak Djokovic the Serbian 1 seed facing the 2 seed from Spain
Rafael Nadal. Both have faced each other many times in the past where Djokovic leads
the series between the two 30-29. Djokovic is set to face British tennis player Cameron
Norrie on Friday in Centre Court at 8:30 EST, with Djokovic being a heavy favorite in the
money line but Norrie being the heavy favorite on the court from the crowd.
The other match was between Australia’s Nick Kyrgios who had been struggling
recently against anyone he has played but made it to the semi-finals in the major event.
He was going to put his master serving skills to the test tomorrow against beloved
tennis player, Rafael Nadal. Unfortunately that will not be the case.
Nadal has withdrawn from Wimbledon with an abdominal strain that he has been
playing through the past several matches, which would not strike as a surprise
struggling against USA’s own Taylor Fritz in the Quarter final match up. The 22 time
major winner won both the Australian and French opens and was seeking the Grand Slam title this year if he could win both Wimbledon and the US Open in early
September. He has won 2 Wimbledon titles that include the 2008 title and 2010.
Nadal had this to say on Thursday, “It’s obvious that if I keep going, the injury is going to
get worse and worse.” He is not wrong, being 36 years old and still competing at a high
level in the tennis world can be a lot on your body and can surely weigh you down.
With this withdrawal, Nick Kyrgios has a complete bye into the major final and will await
the winner of tomorrow’s match between Djokovic and Norrie to face either on Sunday
at Centre Court. Djokovic looks to win his 7th Wimbledon title after winning the 2011,
2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2021 titles.
“I made my decision because I believe I can’t win two matches.” Nadal said in his
presser. “I don’t want to go out there and not be competitive enough to play at the level I
need to achieve my goal.”
