Back in November, Jack Eichel was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights from the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres in return received Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, a 2022 first round pick, and a 2023 second round pick. The Golden Knights hoped this would lead to a deep playoff run with the addition of Jack last season, but they crashed and burned, missing out on playoffs completely.
Jack Eichel has played 39 games for the Golden Knights, scoring 17 goals and picking up 13 assists for a total of 30 points in 39 games.
On the other hand, Alex Tuch has played 54 games for the Sabres, scoring 17 goals and assisting 27 for a total of 44 points in 54 games.
Since Jack Eichel’s debut for the Golden Knights, the Knights have a record of 18-12-4 for a total of 40 points. The Sabres? They have a record of 19-10-3 for a total of 41 points. Not only is Tuch putting up points at a better per game rate, but the Sabres as a team are also performing better than the Golden Knights.
The Sabres are 3-1 to start this 2022-2023 NHL season, while the Golden Knights are currently 4-1 to start the season. Both teams are off to a hot start, but let’s be real here, on paper Vegas has had a substantially better looking roster since Eichel’s debut, but the results are that the Sabres take the slight edge in performance.
Not to mention Peyton Krebs who the Sabres also got in the trade, has 23 points in 52 games with the Sabres, but is off to a cold start with only 1 point in 4 games so far this season.

The Golden Knights are likely to have a better season this year, but at the end of the day, the Sabres might have actually won this trade depending on how their draft selections also pan out.
In the 2022 draft, the Sabres selected forward Noah Ostlund at 16th overall, which is the pick they got from Vegas in the trade. Ostlund is currently playing for Djurgardens IF on loan in Sweden, where he as 5 points in the first 9 games this season.
