The New York Rangers are not having the start to the season that they would have expected after last years deep playoff run. They currently sit 10th in the East and have only won 1 out of their last 5 games.
On Saturday they faced off against the rebuilding Blackhawks, who they went down 3-0 to before a slight bounce back, but ended up losing 5-2 on the night at home.
Rangers new captain Jacob Trouba has struggled so far this season, and took out his frustrations during this game by throwing a huge hit on Blackhawks forward Athanasiou, see it here..

You can see the frustration in the hit, but it doesn’t end there, he throws his helmet at the boards as he is sent to the locker room too.

Andreas Athanasiou doesn’t hold back when talking to the media, saying this: “He’s an $8 million man with 0 goals, so he has to figure out how to do something when making that much. If you can’t help the team, I guess you try to hurt guys on the other team.”
Trouba currently sits at 0 goals and 6 assists in 26 games, also being a -9 with 31 PIMs. He has taken 77 shots, so it’s not like he isn’t shooting.
Was this a fair response from the Blackhawks forward, or was Trouba just trying to hype up his own team and didn’t have any intent to injure? With Trouba’s history it’s certainly hard to tell…

I was there. He was trying to hype up the team and get some life in them. He’s doing his best. It was a clean hit against the opposing player with the puck, no intent to cause injury.
