Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane were the main pieces of the Blackhawks organization for a long time, winning 3 Stanley Cups together in their tenure with the team.
Patrick Kane left the Blackhawks earlier this year when he was traded to the New York Rangers, where he is now looking to chase a Stanley Cup as they enter playoffs.
Mark Masters reported that this was Patrick Kane’s response to the news that Toews will be leaving Chicago:
“He’s a legend. I mean, he turned that franchise around. It’s pretty impressive what he’s done with his career, but just for that city … Great with the fans, great with the people. He was a guy that led our team so he’s a legend.”
Strong words from Kane for his former long time teammate in Chicago.
This marks the end of an era for the Blackhawks, as they look to turn the page and rebuild the franchise over the next couple of years, starting with what they hope is a top 3 draft pick in the NHL 2023 draft.
