The NHL has revealed the three finalists for the prestigious Selke Trophy, awarded to the league’s best defensive forward. The finalists are Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins, Nico Hischier of the New Jersey Devils, and Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The winner of this coveted award will be announced at the NHL Awards ceremony later this year.
Bergeron, a five-time Selke winner, played a pivotal role in leading Boston to the best regular season in NHL history. In addition to his stellar defensive play, Bergeron contributed offensively, scoring 27 goals and 31 assists for a total of 58 points in 78 games played. The Bruins’ forward continues to be a dominant force in the league and is seeking his sixth Selke Trophy.
Mitch Marner, the 25-year-old Maple Leafs’ star, had an outstanding offensive season, setting a career-high with 30 goals and 69 assists for a total of 99 points in 80 games. Despite his offensive prowess, Marner’s defensive play hasn’t gone unnoticed, earning him a spot as a Selke finalist.
Nico Hischier, the 24-year-old captain of the New Jersey Devils, also had a remarkable year on both ends of the ice. Offensively, he tallied 31 goals and 49 assists for a total of 80 points in 81 games. His leadership and defensive skills have played a significant role in the Devils’ recent success.

While Bergeron is considered the favorite to win the Selke Trophy for the sixth time in his illustrious career, both Marner and Hischier have youth on their side and the potential to claim the award in the future if Bergeron does take home his 6th Selke.
