Newcastle United have been by far one of the most active clubs in the transfer market in 2022. They made 4 permanent signings in the January 2021 window, and have already made 3 this summer.

Newcastle was bought and taken over by new owners in October of 2021, and the new owners have shown ambition to make Newcastle a top club.

“We are extremely proud to become the new owners of Newcastle United, one of the most famous clubs in English football. We thank the Newcastle fans for their tremendously loyal support over the years and we are excited to work together with them.”

– yasir al-rumayyan, governor of pif, who now own a 80% stake in newcastle united.

The first transfer window under new ownership was a big one, with Newcastle splashing out $111.31M dollars according to Transfermarkt. They brought in players to fill a variety of positions, buying 4 players and bringing 1 in on loan.

Matt Targett, the 26 year old left-back was brought in on loan from Aston Villa. He averaged a rating of 6.96 in the Premier League in the 2021-2022 season according to SofaScore.

Dan Burn, the 29 year old center-back was brought in from Brighton for $16.5m dollars. He has played 16 games for the club so far, and averaged a 6.98 rating according to SofaScore in the 2021-2022 Premier League Season.

He averaged a 6.77 rating in the Premier League this season according to SofaScore. Many fans were not in favor of this signing, and he has not lived up to this $30M price tag that Newcastle paid.

The fifth and most expensive signing that Newcastle made in the January transfer window was Bruno Guimarães from Lyon for $46.3M dollars. The defensive midfielders played 17 Premier League games for Newcastle so far, and averaged a rating of 7.25 according to SofaScore, scoring 5 goals as well.

A eventful January window for the club, who ended up finishing in 11th place in the Premier League after being in 19th with 1 win in mid-January. It’s safe to say the new signings made a big impact, and helped the club get out of the relegation zone.

Newcastle United has kept their momentum going, and they have already made 3 signings just 2 weeks into the summer 2022 transfer window.

They enjoyed Matt Targett’s loan spell at the club, and decided to buy the player for $19.25M dollars from Aston Villa, their first signing of the summer.

The second signing of the summer is another player from Burnley FC, who were relegated from the Premier League. Newcastle bought Nick Pope, the 30 year old goalkeeper was brought in for $12.65M dollars. He kept 9 clean sheets, and made 3.4 saves per game while playing for Burnley last season.

The third signing of the summer that was just confirmed is 22 year old center back Sven Botman from Lille OSC. Newcastle seem to be far from done in the market this window, with the club currently being linked to Huge Ekitike, a 20 year old striker who had 10 goals in 24 matches with Stade de Reims last season.
