Montreal Canadiens’ Mike Hoffman has taken to social media to voice his frustration with the NHL Player Department’s handling of suspension decisions. In a recent Instagram story, Hoffman specifically called out the department for the one-game suspension given to A.J. Greer for cross-checking him in the face, comparing it to a two-game suspension he once received for a much less aggressive offense.
The incident in question took place during a heated face-off between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. A.J. Greer and Mike Hoffman became entangled in a scuffle that escalated when Greer delivered a cross-check to Hoffman’s face. Greer was subsequently assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct for his actions. The NHL Player Department had a hearing today and later announced a one-game suspension for the Bruins forward.

You can see Hoffman has a huge cut on his chin from the cross check to the face from Greer, and it’s obvious why Hoffman would be upset over such a little suspension based on the results of the altercation.
Hoffman’s call-out has sparked a broader discussion among hockey fans and analysts about the consistency and fairness of the NHL Player Department’s suspension decisions. This isn’t the first time fans have been upset with the NHL Player Safety Department.
Mike Hoffman’s recent Instagram story has brought attention to the issue of inconsistent suspension rulings by the NHL Player Department. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether the league will consider revisiting its approach to handling player suspensions in the future.
