Luke Schenn’s Surprising Reunion with Former Leafs Defense Partner Tomas Kaberle

Luke Schenn and Tomas Kaberle, former Leafs defense partners, catching up in their Toronto neighborhood.

When Luke Schenn, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ defenseman, moved into his new house in Toronto, he never expected to find a familiar face living across the street. Much to his surprise, his new neighbor turned out to be none other than Tomas Kaberle, his first NHL defense partner during his time with the Leafs.

Schenn and Kaberle have enjoyed catching up since their unexpected reunion. The two players were teammates during Schenn’s first seasons in the NHL, when he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Schenn, who was drafted 5th overall in the 2008 draft by the Maple Leafs, has fond memories of his time spent playing alongside Kaberle.

Luke Schenn was traded to the Maple Leafs from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2023 third-round pick back on February 28th. Since rejoining the Leafs, Schenn has played in seven games this season but has yet to record a point. Despite this, Schenn brings a wealth of experience and veteran leadership to the team, having played in 925 NHL games and accumulating 190 points and 751 penalty minutes throughout his career.

Schenn’s NHL career has seen him play for seven different teams, but Toronto holds a special place in his heart as the city where it all began. Returning to the Maple Leafs has given him the opportunity to reconnect with old teammates, like Kaberle, and contribute to the team that first believed in his potential.

As the season progresses, both Schenn and the Maple Leafs hope that his experience and familiarity with the organization will pay dividends on the ice. For now, though, the unexpected reunion between Schenn and Kaberle serves as a reminder of the unique connections and friendships forged during a player’s time in the NHL.
