The Nashville Predators faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night in Carolina. Saros and the Predators are not having the season that they wanted to have, Saros currently only has 13 wins in 28 starts this season, posting a 2.76 GAA and a .915 SV%, both numbers being worse than his career average, but last night was different.
The Hurricanes started the scoring early with Stastny scoring only 8 minutes into the game, but Saros was very hard to beat past that mark. The Hurricanes would go on to take a total of 67 shots on goal throughout the game, averaging over a shot per minute of game time. They only managed to beat Saros 3 times as he made 64 saves, a Predators franchise record for saves in one game. Saros got peppered the entire night but put up a .955 SV% and led his team to a 5-3 win.
To put it in perspective, the Predators only managed 25 shots on goal the entire game and scored 5 of them. A historic performance from Saros in net, but very sloppy on the defensive end from the Predators for allowing over 60 shots on goal.
Saros was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy last season along side Jacob Markstrom and Igor Shesterkin.
