Bayern Munich player Joao Cancelo recently spoke out about the surprising dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann and the hiring of Thomas Tuchel as the club’s new manager. Cancelo, who is currently on loan at Bayern from Manchester City, expressed gratitude towards Nagelsmann and a strong desire to achieve Champions League success under Tuchel’s guidance.
In an interview, Cancelo mentioned that it was Nagelsmann who brought him to Bayern Munich and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity. “I’ve only found out now, I know I won’t find Nagelsmann when I return to Munich – he wanted me to Bayern, I’d like to thank him,” said Cancelo.
Interestingly, Thomas Tuchel was the manager of Chelsea when they defeated Manchester City, including Cancelo, in the Champions League final back in 2021. Despite this history, Cancelo remains optimistic about working with Tuchel at Bayern. “As for Tuchel, he made me lose a Champions League final, so I hope he will win it for me this year!” Cancelo remarked.
Cancelo’s move to Bayern Munich came after a rumored falling out with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. He joined City in 2019 from Juventus, but after struggling to find consistent playing time in recent months, the talented full-back was loaned out to Bayern in search of more opportunities.
Since arriving in Munich, Cancelo has made six Bundesliga appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists, while also picking up one yellow card. He made a notable impact in the Champions League match against PSG, where he played for approximately 50 minutes and registered an assist.
