The first game we are going to look at is the Avalanche against the Penguins in Pittsburgh. The Avalanche have been facing the injury bug all season, and currently sit 1 point outside a wildcard spot with 3 games in hand on the Flames. The Penguins have also struggled this year, sitting in the last wild card spot but have games in hand on those behind them. The Avalanche look to finally be getting healthy again, just in time to make a push and get into playoff mode to try and defend their title. The Avalanche have been strong defensively throughout the season despite injuries, being ranked 9th in terms of least goals against. The Avalanche have struggled on offense, being ranked 19th, but the injury bug can certainly be to blame there. The Penguins are ranked 17th in defense and 12th in offense. DeSmith is starting in net tonight for the Penguins, he has struggled this season with only 7 wins in 21 starts and a GAA of 3.35.

The second game we are going to look at is the oilers playing against the Red Wings in Detroit. The Oilers are starting to pick up pretty good form, also looking to make a deep push for a top spot in the Western Conference in order to get home advantage in the playoffs. The Red Wings are struggle, their captain is in a stalemate over a new contract, and at this point would probably be okay with accepting a high draft pick as they won’t be making playoffs unless they go on a miraculous run. The Oilers have covered the spread 54% of games this season, while the Red Wings have struggled when they are the underdog. The Oilers are ranked the #1 offensive team in the league, the Red Wings are 21st defensively. The Oilers -1.5 like has great value at +150.
