The French national team has been plagued with injuries right before and during this World Cup. The 2018 champions have already lost over 5 different players due to injury right before the world cup, during training at the world cup, and now during their opening match where they beat Australia 4-1 with goals from Rabiot, Giroud x2, and Mbappe.

Despite the fairly smooth win, the French national team are now without another star player. Before this match, they already had Karim Benzema, Nkunku, Kante, Paul Pogba, Kimpembe, and Maignan on their injury list, who would have been part of the squad if healthy.

In the 13th minute of the match, defender Lucas Hernandez went off with a knee injury, being replaced by his brother Theo Hernandez.

After scans, it turns out Lucas Hernandez has torn his ACL and will be out for not only the rest of the world cup, but also for the rest of the club season. A nightmare tournament for the 26 year old Frenchmen who will cheer on his squad in hopes that they can repeat as World Cup champions after winning the World Cup in 2018.

Lucas Hernandez was a part of the 2018 World Cup winning squad, picking up an assist in the World Cup final against Croatia.

A tough loss for France, who are now without SEVEN players who would all be part of the match day squads at the World Cup.
