Herbert is without a doubt one of the leagues brightest young stars. He is ascending the list of top QB’s at a rapid rate and with his physical tools the sky is the limit. Let’s breakdown if it is possible for Herbert to take home the MVP award this season.
Herbert will have to jump the line so to speak in order to win the award over more established stars like Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers. The best way to do this is to win the primetime games. He has got to beat the Chiefs twice and he has to out-duel the other top QB’s he will face.
The stat progression is there. He improved on a stellar rookie year with an even better second year that was also his first season in a new system. He threw for 38 touchdowns last season and it is not outside the realm of possibility for him to hit 50 this years. The Chargers have a slew of weapons for him to attack with all over the field and in year two under Brandon Staley he can let it rip.
Lastly the Chargers need to win a lot of games. The Chargers front office has done everything they can to make this happen. Khalil Mack is a huge addition and they continue to add o-line talent to support Herbert. The Chargers are going to be very competitive and have a punchers chance at the Super Bowl.
Herbert is sitting at +1100 odds to take home the MVP this season and those are great odds. He has all the tools and talent around him to make the leap into mega star status and take the league by storm.
