The Buffalo Sabres are building something amazing over there in Buffalo. They have one of the youngest teams in the NHL, yet they sit only 1 spot out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Sabres announced this morning that they have signed 21 year old center Dylan Cozens to a 7 year deal with an AAV of $7.1M. Cozens is having himself a great year, scoring 17 goals and picking up 26 assists for a total of 43 points in 49 games. Cozens was drafted 7th overall in the 2019 draft by Buffalo.

This isn’t the first great deal the Sabres have signed recently. They signed Tage Thompson to a long term contract with an AAV of $7.14M, and oh boy has he been playing above his contract and it hasn’t even started as it kicks in next year. They have Dahlin on a $6M AAV deal till the end of next season, they also have Tuch and Olofsson signed for $4.75M each till the end of next season.
It seems a lot of these guys are very happy in Buffalo, and they are building a strong young team. They have a ton of guys on ELCs as well, with Power, Peterka, Quinn, and Krebs. They currently have $18M in cap space, but will likely need most of that when all these contracts run out, but I am sure they will be working one extensions throughout the year.
If the Sabres can get their hands on a great goalie, they will be in amazing position to turn into a team you do not want to face come playoff time.
