Alex Ovechkin, on the hunt to catch Gretzky’s all time goal record, has continued to fire in goals at a rapid pace, scoring 13 already in 24 games this season.

Last season, Ovechkin put up 50 goals in 77 games, so his pace is certainly slower this season but he is still finding the back of the net and is currently on pace for just over 40 goals this season. He does lead his team in points with 23, followed by Dylan Strome who has 18, and Evgeny Kuznetsov who had 16 points.

The Washington Capitals as a team are certainly struggling, sitting 12th in the Eastern conference with only 10 wins in 24 games, but have won 3 of their last 5.

With his goal last night against the Vancouver Canucks, Alex Ovechkin has tied Wayne Gretzky for most away goals in NHL history with 402 goals, doing it in 90 less games than Gretzky. Ovechkin scored his 402 goals in 652 road games, while Gretzky scored his 402 away goals in 742 away games.

Ovechkin is now up to 793 career goals, 101 goals away from Gretzky’s record of 894 goals.
