The rankings of the best quarterbacks in the league has been released per ESPN and
we will break down the top 5 and also what quarterbacks sit just outside of the top 5 that
could shift 2023’s list around after the 2022 season.
Aaron Rodgers:

Everyone knows just how great Aaron Rodgers is, and the 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021
NFL MVP winner is set to take the field once again this season with the Green Bay
Packers. Rodgers has been one of the best quarterbacks to ever step foot in the NFL
and he will no doubt be inducted into the Hall of Fame when he retires, but before that
happens, the standout QB would definitely like to see another Vince Lombardi trophy in
his hands before his time in the NFL is done. After a great 2021 season with over 4000
passing yards, a 69% completion rate, and over 35 passing touchdowns, Rodgers is
heading into the 2022 season feeling good, even without his star receiver Davonte
Adams to throw to. It’s no secret that the Packers are the best team in the NFC North
even with losing key players like Adams, but Rodgers has had no problems adapting in
the past after losing big talent, I mean that is why he has won 4 NFL MVP awards and a
Super Bowl. Per ESPN, Rodgers has earned the number one spot again on the best
QB’s to enter the 2022 season, and why not? The 38 year old QB is getting up there in
age, but has shown that he is still one of the best after 17 seasons in the league. We
look forward to watching the Green Bay QB yet again this season and to see if he can make it back to another Super Bowl with his team even after some off-season complications.
Patrick Mahomes:

The up and coming G.O.A.T is what they refer to him by and rightfully so. Mahomes has
definitely proven that he is capable of being the best quarterback in the league and has
already earned that title of being MVP back in 2018. The Kansas City Chiefs QB has his
hands full this year to adapt to the loss of his best receiver in Tyreek Hill, but there have
been discussions that adding Valdes-Scantling and Smith-Schuster could be better than
having Hill on the team. With just over 4800 passing yards last season with a 66%
completion rate and 37 touchdowns, Mahomes looks to take last year’s 12-5 record and
make it into 17-0. People call Mahomes a magician with his diving throws and heaves
downfield that seem to work somehow, so the question of a perfect regular season
record is not out of the question for him. A lot of obstacles stand in the way for
Mahomes though, being in the best division in the league right now per ESPN reporters.
The Raiders, Broncos and Chargers will all have something to say about Mahomes
trying to go for a 5th straight division title of his own and 7th straight division title for the
team. He definitely has his work cut out for him and we will see a lot of great QB
matchups this season that everyone has been waiting for, and a lot of fans will not see a
problem as that is why he has earned the 2nd place spot for best QBs entering the
league in 2022 per ESPN. The question remains though, can he have another MVP
season and get past a tough conference in the AFC after being cut short of another
Super Bowl berth by the Bengals last season?
Josh Allen:

Here is a QB that everyone wants to talk about, and being ranked 3rd for best QBs
entering the 2022 NFL season, everyone has high expectations for Allen and this Bills
offense. It’s no secret that Josh Allen is incredibly talented and being labeled as a
possible G.O.A.T, means big things for the Buffalo Bills. Allen has proven himself
worthy of earning an MVP and at age 25, there is still a lot of time left in his career to
earn one. With 4400 passing yards last season, 37 touchdowns and a 63% completion
rate, Allen is looking to be back in the conversation for an MVP title for the 2022 season.
With the Bills leading the way for the favorite to win the Super Bowl again this year,
people start to wonder if Allen is legit enough to handle this type of pressure and take
them all the way. Being defeated by Mahomes once again last season in the playoffs,
Allen has been questioned multiple times if he will ever win against Mahomes when it
truly matters. This could be why he is sitting behind Mahomes in the 3rd spot entering
the 2022 season. All in all though, you cannot argue that Allen has not come through
big time for Buffalo, and turned the franchise around to be one of the best teams they
have ever had. One thing is for certain, as long as the Bills roster can stay healthy, they
will always make the playoffs and have a shot at a run to the Super Bowl, because their
division is on the soft side and Allen shreds all 3 teams defenses when they face each
other.
Tom Brady:

Even though he sits fourth in the best QBs entering 2022, he is still reigning as the
greatest quarterback of all time. Brady had everyone fooled when he retired for a short
period of time then announced he was coming back for another season with the
Buccaneers. After an amazing career with the Patriots and starting off fresh down in
Tampa Bay, Brady is looking to take the Bucs all the way once again this year to show
why he is still and should be the top QB in the league. Coming off a career high 5316
passing yards and 485 completions with 719 attempts last season and finishing 2nd
behind Aaron Rodgers in the MVP voting, the 3 time MVP looks to win his 4th award and
secure an 8th Super Bowl to add to his résumé. There is not much to say about Brady
that is faulty, because he always comes out on top one way or another and proves that
he is still a top 5 QB even if he is 44 years old. The question is though, can he keep up
with the new play style that has come in with the young QBs who are just in front of him,
or can he adapt and do what he has always done and out play everyone in his path?
Joe Burrow:

Joe Burrow amazes everyone with just how good this young talent is. Going to Ohio State and never getting a snap, to a journey that he never saw coming at LSU and it led him to a National Championship with possibly the best College Football team we have ever seen. He is now going into his 3rd year in the league and after a rough start to his career in the NFL, Burrow made a name for himself after an amazing 2021 season and quite arguably one of the best seasons the Cincinnati Bengals have ever had. The record may not have shown how good this team actually was, but the playoff run surely did. With multiple comeback wins under his belt in the playoffs now, Joe Burrow and his Cincinnati Bengals are now one of the biggest threats in the NFL. With over 4600 passing yards and a 70% completion rate in 2021, Burrow looks to stay hot entering 2022 and lead his team to another successful season. Earning the fifth spot for best QBs entering the 2022 season, Burrow has shown much adversity and climbed his way up the ladder. You could argue that the only reason he is in the final top 5 spot is because of that playoff run, but looking at the stats he is much deserving of that spot. There is also much more than statistics when it comes to these positions as well, IQ has a lot to do with why the top 5 QBs are positioned the way they are. Others could argue that Burrow does not deserve the fifth spot and it should be given to someone else, but the Bengals QB has proven why he is one of the best as of right now. Only being 25 years old and many more seasons ahead, we will definitely see an MVP season out of Burrow soon, and it could even be this year. The only thing is, he has a lot of talented QBs behind him and in front of him, so he is under a lot of pressure to remain great, but he has proven time and time again that the pressure really does not bother him and motivates him to be even better.
Per ESPN those are the top 5 QB’s in the league, that list will definitely change after this
year. Tom Brady could leave the league and finally retire as well as Aaron Rodgers. We
could see a standout season by Josh Allen and he could take the top spot and finally
get past Mahomes, or Joe Burrow could also rise to the occasion and win a Super Bowl
and move his way even further up the list. Not to mention, there is abundance of talent
behind Burrow as well, such as Justin Herbert, who has proven himself in a short
amount of time to be as good as the rest of the top 5. We also see Matthew Stafford who rose into the top 10 after the Super Bowl victory with the Rams. Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson and Dak Prescott are among other names in the top 10 that could have great seasons and rise into the top 5. It is competitive to get into the top 10 let alone the top 5 QBs in the league but we will definitely see some new faces that pop into that top category in next year’s 2023 list.
