Two of the greatest players of the modern era, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. They have both dominated the league for years, won Stanley Cups, and have had many incredible achievements. Ovechkin is on his way to beating Wayne Gretzky’s goal scoring record, Sidney Crosby is on his way to having over 1,500 points and over 1,000 assists all while leading the Penguins to 3 Stanley Cups, just incredible careers.
Well, one thing about the two players is they play in the same division. The Penguins and the Capitals are actually only 3 points away from each other in the standings currently.
Since they play in the same division, they play together in the all-star game and are around each other for other events, and boy have they created a bond during these events. You can always see them talking, laughing, and hanging out together during the all-star weekend, but they took it to another level this year.
Alex Ovechkin said he and Sidney Crosby talked about teaming up for the breakaway challenge tomorrow. I asked whose idea it was, he grinned and said he couldn’t say.

The two legends are teaming up for the breakaway challenge tonight in the skills competition, and Ovechkin seemed pretty excited about it when he was asked.
Ovechkin also went on to say this…
Just a couple of buddies 🥹

It’s awesome to see 2 of the league greatest ever players having a connection like this. These two guys could probably talk for days about all the amazing stories they have in their decorated NHL careers.
Ovechkin also mentioned they sometimes call or text to congratulate each other whenever they hit major milestones. He said their relationship at the start of their careers was not great but as they matured they became friends, off the ice of course.
