Every year a running back surprises the league and becomes a sensation. Green Bay Packers RB AJ Dillon is this years player.
Last year Dillon ran for 803 yards and 5 rushing scores on 187 attempts and 2 receiving touchdowns. That averages out to a respectable 4.3 yards per carry. Dillon now enters his third year in the league with more opportunity than ever to break out. He still has Aaron Jones over him on the depth chart but as last season played out it turned into more of a time share. Also with the departure of Davante Adams their are touches to be had in the GB offense and we should see sets with both RB’s on the field at the same time with Jones split out wide.
Dillon also grew as a receiving option last season. He ranked top 10 in yards per reception for RBs at 9.2 while only averaging .1 yards before contact on receptions. He did damage on check downs and if he is able to be featured as a more prolific pass catching back then his value will skyrocket.
This is the year for the Packers to figure out what they have in Dillon. He will be extension eligible after this season and with Aaron Jones’ money coming off the books soon now is the time to find out if they need to continue with Dillon for the long run. Look for Dillon to have a much bigger role and see some surprising success with for the Packers this year.
