The Yankees have acquire righty reliever Scott Effros from the Cubs in exchange for Hayden Wesneski. The Yankees were in dire need for bullpen help and got it from the Cubs with Effros. Effros is a 28 year old rookie with 5 years of team control. He throws from a funky angle and features a wipeout sinker and above average changeup. The Cubs received Wesneski who is widely viewed as the Yankees #7 prospect. Wesneski was a 6th round pick in 2019 and was shooting up Yankees prospect lists this season. He would have been Rule 5 Draft eligible this offseason so this helps the Yankees with their roster crunch as well.

Monday, Aug 1, 1:20 PM: Padres acquire Josh Hader

Hader is one of the more surprising names moved so far this deadline. The new Padres closer is one of the best relievers in the game when right. He has been going through a bit of a rough patch but this is still a surprising move by the contending Brewers. The Brewers acquired Taylor Rogers, Robert Gasser, Esteury Ruiz and Dinelson Lamet. They got a mix of prospects and impact major leaguers and will look to continue their push into the playoffs. The Padres were able to retain all six of their top prospects for a potential Juan Soto deal.

Monday, Aug 1, 4:23 PM: Yankees acquire Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino

The Yankees are not done today as they continue to fortify their pitching depth. The acruired starter Frankie Montas and reliever Lou Trivino for prospects JP Sears, Luis Medina, Cooper Bowman and Ken Waldichuk. The A’s made out with some solid depth prospects with JP Sears being the sleeper best of them. He has pitched well for the Yankees in spot starts this season. The Yankees continue their push to win a World Series by replenishing a pitching staff that had been decimated by injuries.

Monday, Aug 1, 4:23 PM: Astros trade for Trey Mancini

Houston added a great depth bat in Mancini. This was a 3 team trade, Houston received Mancini and Jayden Murray, the Rays received Jose Siri and the Orioles received Seth Johnson and Chayce Mcdermott. This is a bummer for Baltimore as they had been one of the best stories of the season and now they are in sell mode. Mancini is such a good guy that he may help the Astros be a bit more likeable.

Monday, Aug 1, 6:27 PM: Astros acquire Christian Vásquez

The Red Sox start their deadline by selling off one of the biggest clubhouse guys on their roster. Vásquez had been a member of the Red Sox organization since 2008 and was visibly upset after the news. The Astros continue to add offensive depth in a position of need behind the plate.

Tuesday Aug 2, 9:30 AM: Braves acquire Jake Odorizzi

This is a rare MLB player for player trade between two contending teams. The Braves ship our Will Smith to the Astros and receive Jake Odorizzi in return. Maybe these two will pitch against each other in October.

Tuesday, Aug 2, 10:37 AM: Twins acquire Jorge Lopez

The Orioles continue to sell as they ship off their all-star closer to the Twins. The Twins sent Cade Povich, Yennier Cano, Juan Nuñez and Juan Rojas to the Orioles to acquire Lopez. Solidifying the back end of their bullpen should help stabilize the Twins. The disappointing turn for Orioles fans continue as their plucky underdog continue to get plucked apart.
